Well, yesterdays trip to Lexington went off w/out a hitch! It's just too bad the fish didn't know or want to get involved. The North wind was lightly blowing but steady, all the way from Rogers City where it apparently was blowing a bit harder. This sent some really nice, big rollers at us. About 9:15am we had a lead core knock off the boards due to wave action, so I temporarily set it as an outrod, and within minutes it went off... small King, maybe three or four pounds, but a King nonetheless! (Silver Streak Ice Cold George, 92fow)
That's it, nothing else but big rollers and scarfing down food for the next 6 hours...
Around 4pm when we started to pull our gear, we had a rip on a big dipsey but couldn't get to it in time, so we decided to reset it and fish for another 10 minutes and we got another rip not 5 minutes later. That one got off too! At first I thought we might have been hitting bottom but we were in 80fow and I know we weren't down that far. We tried everything we had, even gave a meat rig some wash time. In the end we went back to all spoons.
We had fun, and didn't get skunked so in our minds the trip was a success. Thinking of going back again in a few weeks, my son is already getting fired up.
Sorry Danski, we couldn't prove the theory that there are some deep fish off of Lexington but we gave her a hell of a try!
